Steal her Style: Blair Waldorf

Gossip Girl is undoubtedly the most stylish show to hit the air since Sex and the City. With New York City as it's backdrop and a cast of Manhattan socialites, could you expect the outfit choices to be anything other than fabulous?

Blair Waldorf is everyone's favourite mean girl and a style icon adored by many. Serena van der Wooden may have the 'bohemian, Chloe girl' look, but its always been Blair Waldorf who took my vote for Best Dressed. Her preppy, sophisticated and polished style has influenced my wardrobe immensely ever since I started watching the Gossip Girl series and continues to make an input on what I purchase, even after the show ended back in 2012.

HEADBANDS

Of course, no Waldorf ensemble is complete without the use of her trademark accessory. Remember, ladies: the bow is always on the right!

When I picture a Blair Waldorf headband, this is one style that quickly comes to mind. Worn in the seventh episode of season one: 'Victor, Victrola', it perfectly compliments the Constance Billard uniform and turns it into much more of a statement look. From early on in the series, its shown that Blair is nothing other than a style icon.

One of my favourite places to buy headbands is New Look. They epitomise the Blair Waldorf look and come at a fairly reasonable price, too. Here are some of my favourites:

BLOUSES

Since the pilot episode, blouses of all varieties have been a common occurrence in Blair's wardrobe. This classic piece accentuates her femininity and presents her timeless style in the best way possible,

The pussy-bow style blouse is something that I've admired since first seeing Blair in her early days of Gossip Girl at Constance Billard. Since then, Blair has also been seen wearing blouses in more exciting prints, such as the black and white blouse featured in the image above and on her trip to the City of Love with her best friend Serena. 

A white blouse can be worn at any time and can be easily personalised to fit anyone's taste throughout the use of accessories. As these are such an essential in any girl's wardrobe, you can find a blouse to suit anyone's price range. High street stores, such as H&M and Zara stock similar items and for anyone who's looking to splurge, you could always check out the nearest department store.

HATS

Blair is a true representation of accessories finishing off a look and this is shown mainly through the use of hats.

The cloche style is extremely prominent in Blair's wardrobe, however, I know that I could never pull off this look. I tend to favour the beret style that Blair is often seen wearing.

To my pleasure, berets seem to have become extremely trendy in the past few months, meaning there are so many available to buy. You can find berets from places such as ASOS or New Look that come at a very reasonable price. Forever 21 and Topshop also stock berets in some exciting prints and textures.

PRINTS

If you want to achieve Blair's super stylish look, a mix of prints are essential.  One of the key ways Blair incorporates prints into her wardrobe, is through printed blouses, usually with bright images such as flowers or leaves.

One example of this is when she is in Paris with Serena. She mixes a cherry print blouse with a colourful printed skirt, styled with a floral scarf belt and pastel blue beret. The mixing of these two bold items could seem scary to some, but Blair always manages to pull it off.

Shops such as Realisation Par, Rouje and Reformation are well known for this style of blouse. Although they are a much more expensive than if you were to shop from Urban Outfitters, they definitely mirror something that Blair would choose.

COLOURS

Blair has taught us that vibrant colours, such as shades of green and yellow, compliment each other to give a striking effect on the final look. Blair always manages to incorporate a pop of colour into her outfits, whether its through a matching hat and handbag or a colour-block dress. She is rarely seen wearing a completely monochromatic outfit. 

If you're feeling a little shy to wear a neon coat, start by adding some bold accessories to your outfit. Shoes or a handbag are a great place to start!

Shoes are another way of dipping your toe into what could be a scary trend. These Kurt geiger heels could really make an outfit more fun, than if it were to be an all-black ensemble. 

RUFFLES
A key aspect of Blair's wardrobe is the use of different textures. Something that is a really prominent feature is the repetition of ruffles. these create interesting silhouettes and a add a little extra something to what could be boring. For example, Blair wears a white blouse, which could be seen as simple, but adding the ruffles makes it much more extravagant.

LACE

Lace is a key item in any girl's wardrobe, when wanting to achieve a feminine look. Blair pulls this off in so many ways, such as by layering tights and blouses.

SHOES
Its seen in Gossip Girl that Blair seems to favour classic shoes styles, such as loafers and Mary-Janes. Something like the iconic Tory Burch flats would definitely make a feature in Blair's wardrobe, but for something a little more fancy, stilettos of any kind would most likely make an appearance. Shoes in bright colours are a great way to add some life into your outfit and is something that Blair does very often.

Of course, this Blair Waldorf inspired outfit wouldn't be complete without a glamorous headband. This one, from New Look, screamed 'Blair!' to me, with it's diamond finish.

My earrings may not be from Tiffany's, but it goes to show anyone can pull of this look with some dimantes; these are from New Look but you can buy a similar pair from any high street store.

THE DETAILS

The pearl embellishment on this Zara top add a touch of elegance to a very wearable look. The black colour helps the matching skirt and beret to stand out, which is a trend featured heavily in Blair's wardrobe. Monochrome outfits with pops of colour are an easy way to embrace Blair's preppy look, I think with a black skirt, this would have also worked with coloured tights.

This skirt also features some ruffles; a key feature in Blair's chic style.

Unbelievably, this top was a bargain find from Primark. It may be labelled as a night shirt, but it goes to show that anything can be styled to look fit for the Upper East Side.
